    Happy Halloween

Happy Halloween. Last night the judging panel (Roseanne M, visiting guest judge Fran H. and myself) toured the neighborhood and scored everyone who had visible Halloween decorations.
First, we want to commend everyone who participated. We oohed, we aahed, and sometimes we laughed (we’re looking at you, Stay-Puft Marshmallow Man). We even saw some performance art from Andy Barrows. We would love to see even more people participate in the Christmas/Winter Holiday of Your Choosing decorating (judging will be in late December).
Second, so that there’s clarity: we announced the time and date of the judging at our last general meeting and also posted it on the community banner at the entrance to our community, posted the information on Facebook and our Website, and sent it in email.
The judges met at 7:30 and were driven by Chris Bartell. Each of us scored the houses independently. We used five criteria (Creativity & Originality, Theme & Cohesion, Visual Impact, Effort & Craftmanship, and Halloween Spirit) and gave each one a score from 1-5 for a maximum of 25 points per house from each judge. At the end of the night, we tallied our points, and the houses with the most points won. While we DID discuss elements that impressed (or sometimes confused) us, we did not discuss our scores until we tallied.
And with that the winners are:
    1st Place ($100 gift card) – 16118 Villa Dr.
    2nd Place ($75 gift card) – 16009 Villa Dr.
    3rd Place ($50 gift card) – 16027 Villa Dr.
Honorable Mention (this goes to someone who cannot win because they’re either a judge or on the board, but still went to great effort, and had points equal to or greater than at least one winner.)
    16107 Pine Ridge Dr.
In addition to their gift cards, these winners will have lawn signs on display until next weekend.
(We’ll try to take better pictures – lights had been turned off by the time we awarded prizes.)
Please take some time to tour the neighborhood and seewhat fantastic work these and other neighbors have done. Especially make sure you go through the haunted house at 16118 Villa.
